IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Iowa football team is off this weekend.
Some will argue that Iowa, with a 5-3 overall record, has been off for most of the weekends since the season started.
A team that many had picked to win the Big Ten West Division for a second consecutive season is now struggling to stay in the upper half of the conference standings.
You won’t find Iowa in the upper half of my latest Big Ten power rankings, but the Hawkeyes still managed to crack the top 10, unlike Michigan State, which still hasn’t won a conference game.

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz often talks about having a family atmosphere in his program.
Family is what caused outside linebacker and Mequon, Wis. native Mike Bruner to be the first to pledge his commitment to Iowa’s 2018 recruiting class. He made the announcement on Twitter shortly after visiting Iowa City over the weekend.
“The sense of family I got while talking to the players and coaches is unbeatable,” Bruner said. “Iowa has everything I want from a great coaching staff to a great program and a great community.
“I believe I made the right decision.”

Hawkeye fans are understandably sad, and in some cases upset that Benjamin is no longer committed to the Iowa football team’s 2017 recruiting class. It isn’t often that one of the best high school running backs from Texas commits to Iowa.
So for Benjamin to have been committed to Iowa for nearly eight months was special.
But now it’s over for reasons that we can’t fully understand.
