IOWA CITY, Iowa - It took a while, but Fran McCaffery finally has landed his first recruit in the 2020 class, and it's somebody whose last name should be familiar to Iowa fans.
Ahron Ulis, a 6-foot-2 point guard from Marian Catholic High School near Chicago, announced his commitment to Iowa on Twitter on Tuesday afternoon.
He is the younger brother of former Kentucky point guard Tyler Ulis, who had Iowa among his top schools throughout his recruitment before picking the Wildcats.
Ahron Ulis had at least 12 scholarship offers from schools that include DePaul, Illinois State, New Mexico and Tulane.
He gives McCaffery his first piece to the 2020 recruiting class and it marks the second year in a row in which Iowa has landed a point guard.
New York City point guard Joe Toussaint is an incoming freshman for the Hawkeyes.
Iowa also received word on Monday that it was among the top five schools for Oskaloosa four-star center center Xavier Foster, along wioth Iowa State, Providence, Baylor and Virginia.
The 6-11 Foster is considered one of the top playes in the 2020 senior class.
