IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Iowa football team endured a slow start on Saturday to prevail 45-16 over Illinois on Saturday at Kinnick Stadium.

Iowa used a second half surge to improve to notch its first win in Big Ten play and to improve to 4-2 overall heading into a bye week.

The win was highlighted by junior safety Brandon Snyder's 89-yard interception return for a touchdown in the third quarter to give Iowa a 24-13 lead.

The 6-foot-1, 214-pound Snyder made his first start since suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament during a spring practice.

Iowa's next game is at Northwestern on Oct. 21.
