IOWA CITY, Iowa - Iowa State used to be considered Kirk Ferentz's kryptonite, but the circumstances have changed considerably since Ferentz lost his first four games against the Cyclones.
Iowa has won four games in a row in the series heading into Saturday's showdown in Ames, and 11 of the last 16 games against Iowa State.
Ferentz met with the media on Tuesday and talked about the challenge of facing the Cyclones in Ames.
He also updated his team from a health standpoint, including saying that sophomore free safety Kaevon Merriweather will miss Saturday's game because of a foot injury that he sustained in practice last Friday. Merriweather also missed this past Saturdays' 30-0 victory over Rutgers at Kinnick Stadium.
He will be replaced in the starting for the second game in a row by sophomore walk-on Jack Koerner, who graduated from West Des Moines Dowling.
Ferentz always speaks highly of Iowa's opponents, and Tuesday was no exception as he raved about the job that Matt Campbell has done as the Iowa State head coach.
Campbell has led Iowa State to eight victories in each of the past two seasons, but he is also 0-3 against Iowa.
